| Valentines Banquet was held on Sunday, February 7
in South Bend, Indiana at the
expo center. We met in the Lamson Hall so that we could car pool down together. This was my sweet valentine for the evening! Isn't she just lovely? (click on images for a larger picture) |

| After driving all that way, we were starving.
Soon they dismissed our table.
My friends Mark and Suji, Baugden and Nattily, and Santi are pictured here. (from left to right - Mark is the one with the glasses) |
|
| Our main course was stir fry vegetables, rice, and
egg rolls. How better to top off
a good meal than with cheesecake! It was good down to the last bite. I learned that Santi loves cheesecake. |
|
| As I was finishing up my second piece of cheesecake,
it was picture time. As you
can see we were both having a good time. It's nice to get a break from studies once in a while. Although you cannot see, outside is a dam, with water falling gently down a grade. |

| Here are some pictures from Devil's Lake, Wisconsin. Ehren, Santi, and I all adventured there for the day. I have climbed at Devil's Lake many times, so I showed them some of my favorite climbs. It was allot of fun. Santi climbed and rappelled for the first time ever. (and she did awesome at it!!!) Ehren also climbed well. Santi and Ehren climbed a 5.6 and a 5.9, I climbed also climbed the 5.6, 5.9, a 5.10b, and a 5.11b. There was allot of fun to be had on a warm February day in Wisconsin. (It was 45 degrees but because the rocks are granite, they warm up like solar panels and were about 60 degrees.) | (Click on images to enlarge) |
| This is Santi rappelling for the first time ever in her life. After proper instruction on how to rappel, she went right down without the slightest hesitation. It was unbelievable. I have never seen someone take to rappelling as quickly as Santi did. This is the same 5.6 crack that she would climb back up when she reached the bottom. The climb is very good for beginning climbers because it has a large ledge below the anchors that makes rappelling easy. We put a helmet on for extra safety. | |
| After completing the first climb we moved to the next lower band of rocks called Balanced Rock. They call it that because there is a large boulder at the top that seems to be precariously balanced but in reality is quite stable. I am rappelling down the 5.9 climb called Watermarks. There is allot of mineral deposits in the rock that has colored it quite beautifully. | |
| Here is Santi climbing the 5.9. I wasn't even able to climb it my first time on that route, but Santi did. A few grunts, some small scratches and she had reached the top. (Ehren is taking the picture) I am belaying Santi from the ground. When we climb, I use only the best gear and setup solid and safe anchors. There is nothing better when you're climbing than a good anchor. | |
| We got some passerbys to take our picture. It was a bright, sunny day and as you can see by the smiles on our faces, we are having a good time climbing and relaxing. Letting our minds slip away from the papers and tests due in the week to come. | |
| I am climbing the 5.10 variation of Watermarks. Here you can see the distinctive black streaks on the reddish granite rock from the mineral deposits mentioned earlier. | |
| We are done climbing for the day and out on the ice
for some fun. The ice was about 8 inches thick with maybe 1 inch
of slush on top. In the background is the East Bluff of Devil's Lake.
The band of rocks above the boulder field is where we climbed. specifically,
we were on the right side. (just above Santi's left shoulder) Such
was the day at Devil's Lake State Park.
